FAQs about Wee Weddings

What is a Wee Wedding or Micro Wedding?

A wee wedding is the Scottish equivalent of a micro wedding. Although some people credit the “micro wedding trend” to the COVID-19 restrictions of 2020/2021, it has outgrown this necessity and become a preference for many couples in 2021 and beyond due to it’s intimate nature.

For a more in-depth description read Helen Pye’s wonderful feature in Hitched - What is a Micro Wedding and Is It Right For You?.

“A micro wedding is a wedding with less than 20 guests. Being smaller in size, it’s usually cheaper, more relaxed and shorter in length than a traditional wedding day. It differs from both an elopement and an ‘intimate’ wedding. An elopement is usually done in secret, will be attended by just the couple marrying and two witnesses, and is often a quick and simple registry office ceremony – whereas a micro wedding is a full wedding day, just on a smaller scale”

When should we start planning our Micro Wedding?

We recommend waiting about a month before jumping into micro wedding planning. This gives you time to revel in your engagement (did someone say champagne?), but not too long so you don't lose momentum. Once you're ready to start planning, get in contact and we will guide you through it step by step.

Do you have to invite plus-ones to a Micro Wedding?

No, you don’t have to invite plus ones if you’re having a micro wedding. With such an intimate event, it's likely many of your guests will know each other and will understand the guest number limitations. You shouldn’t get any flaks but, if you do, remember it's your wedding.

Children are another consideration but again this is completely up to you. Do not feel like you have to include everyone’s children. It can be a hard pill to swallow but if there are a lot of kids on the guest lists, you may just not have the space and that’s ok.

Who pays for a Micro Wedding?

Traditionally, this goes back to the “dowry” and puts the responsibility into the bride’s parents’ hands. But in modern times and with micro weddings, everyone can/should help with what they’re able to. In fact, we see more brides and grooms themselves paying for their own wee day.

Should we hire a videographer?

We find that most couples love video footage and cherish their wedding video for years to come - it'll help you remember all the special moments (even if they got a bit blurry on the day). We would recommend it but it's important to make sure it fits with your budget since there are other, more important, items to consider.

How do we make our wedding stand out?

This is where we truly show our colours with our skills and connections to give your day that "wow factor". It often comes from small, meaningful details that reflect your relationship which we will craft into the fabric of the day to make it unforgettable for everyone.
